This week, Newsday published a letter from LRANY’s Executive Director, Tom Stebbins, pointing to our states broken civil justice system as a reason we are not open for business.

An excerpt:

“It is no surprise that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s Start-Up NY program has largely been a disappointment [“Shut down Start-Up NY,” Editorial, July 8]. While tax relief is certainly a component of economic development, our state’s onerous and abusive legal environment scares businesses from setting up in New York.

Taxes can be managed and planned for, but a single lawsuit can put a company out of business. According to a study by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, companies are more likely to get sued in New York than anywhere else.”
